Witch Ladders

A witch ladder is a form of folk magic that originated from various pagan traditions within the United Kingdom, in which a practitioner would take a rope, and tie various materials in knots onto it, to accomplish a specific intention.

The Quickness (Witch Ladder 02)

This work is intentionally divided into 3 subsections: the tiles, the painted pendant center, and the lowest disk. This work is a study of the extrapolation of space visually, the tiles are the extraction of the work, its person, place and thing, separated into 3 to represent the 3 prime essences of the image. The three primes are the components within alchemical workings; salt representing the physical realm or aspect, the mercury is the soul or internal aspect, and sulfur the spirit or connection to the universe. The works are recombined within the central painted sections, unified by material. The final lowest section is the physical manifestation of the recombination, by focusing on a minute detail within the composition that might otherwise go unnoticed.
